1. How to invent a new job ?
More than thirty years of experience in the field of colour as applied to architecture and to the design of household and industrial products has enabled us to carefully develop and hone our very precise and expert methods nourishing our priceless and incomparable data bank with its wealth of information on the social and cultural ways in which colour is used throughout the world. From country to country, region by region, from market to market. In order to win over new consumers, to avoid mistakes, to understand colour-ways and have them ready at our finger tips allowing us to meet the expectations of our purchasers, (wherever they are), to anticipate and answer their questions, to assure the success of the product within its market segment, colour must be perfectly conceived.
2. Colorist, what do you mean ?
The Earth is blue as an orange, said the poet... Get a breath of fresh air from moods within the times, smell where from it comes, sniff at and feel it to inspire, to be inspired, to perfume it back and color it to better breath it again and to reinject it into our projects, such is the experience of the A3DC. Our main capacity of syntheses consists in integrating the atmosphere of moment, in smelling the new influences, in sniffing, in deciphering what the wind of change and of the creativity can bring into the work of the color current as desires, envies, trend information, cultural influences, striking artistic events. But unlike the style-offices, the trend-setters, the fashionista and their fleeting modes moved from fashion which go out of fashion, the A3DC, seeing everything but retaining nothing of it which will not last, claims its designer's status, between fashion and industry, short-living and long-lasting, short and long term. The recommendations of the A3DC are traced on the rhythms of the industry, favor long cycles over time. Because, for the industry as for the architecture, it is good to know that if we can be inspired by the clouds and the "air du temps", we know how to be realistic, back feet to earth...
3. The 10th arrondissement in Paris home of design
In the centre of a typical Parisien district with its authentic, retro charm and past anchored in the shadow of the Hôtel de Nord. The 10th arrondissement buzzes with trendy boutiques and converted warehouses. The showrooms of designers and creators and conceptual shop windows overflow with originality. A hot-bed of ideas, a foyer of creativity in a joyful melting-pot of cultures and inspiration.
On the second floor, the vast expanse of an ancient printing house is lit, like artists’ studios, with great north-facing windows letting in maximum quality and natural daylight just a stone’s throw away from the St. Martin canal. 4. The arrondissement for real design
District of creativity and an incomparable place to live, this corner of Paris is turbulent, joyful and animated. Around the newly redesigned place de la République, Design has its rightful place here in the 10th arrondissement, where it belongs.
A corner of Paris that is young, dynamic and authentic. A place of many parts anchored in its folklore, history and heritage, also a place that doesn’t take itself too seriously! A lively corner of Paris, bustling with people from all parts of the globe. A continually changing melting-pot of creation where inventiveness and design get along together… where creators’ boutiques and artists’ studios flourish and industrial lofts, showrooms, trendy bars and warehouses, stocks, depots, docks, pop’ up shops, conceptual stores and art galleries all thrive. All under the watchful eye of the 10th arrondissement’s town hall, eager to value and support the specific role of a ‘quartier’ where it’s good to be, echoing Paris, Capital of Creativity.
5. The colour of the town
The analysis of an architectural site of a particular part of a town starts with a detailed photographic report in situ with sketches, note taking and colour samples of façades, roofs, shutters and iron work.
This inventory of materials and the colours used and realized on the spot is the fundamental vocabulary from which A3DC conceives the creation or re-creation, through historical research, of the colour palettes for its architectural and urban projects.
6. The colours of the materials
From the most natural to the most artificial the full range of today’s materials is infinite and the possible answers no longer depend on economic factors alone. Industry has pushed back the boundaries.
A3DC has always taken into consideration and recommended that the colours of materials should be preserved kept and validated. Wood or metal, coloured lights, natural brickwork, drift-wood and slate, these materials lend their own register of natural colours both gentle and harmonious. Nature does not get it wrong. Everything in nature works together. Everywhere, colour and materials come first.
7. Local colour
A3DC ‘s data bank is unique.
Over thirty years of documenting, of collecting samples and site analysis have produced a library brimful of rare materials, a collection of soil types, stone and tiles gathered worldwide. Colour is understood from the perspective of the history and geography of civilizations, social and cultural traditions, education and religions. Collections of samples, pigments and colours. All the available international colour systems combined with the alliance of closed circles of experts and specialists have promoted intercultural contacts and exchanges. With a worldwide and respected signature the framework of A3DC has been built upon tried and tested solid foundations. At the Atelier, we know that each and every colour creation is determined by a specific period in time, inspiration, individual place and light.

8. The colours of time
The rich data bank of A3DC is constantly evolving.
