Residence le Cardinal, Chilly-Mazarin, color study, ITE refurbishment

a3dc has been appointed colour consultant for the renovation of the façades of the Cardinal residence, as part of the Exterior Thermal Insulation (ITE) project. For this project, a3dc‘s colour experts developed a powerful and distinctive palette of natural earth tones and red ochre, inspired by the residence’s location in Chilly-Mazarin.

Projet de coloration architecture, coloriste conseil par a3dc agence de design couleur pour le ravalement des façades de la résidence Le Cardinal. Rénovation ITE des façades et étude couleur Marie Fournier Adrien Maschino

This choice of elegant baked red is a direct reference to Cardinal red, a highly architectural red that has echoes in both heritage and contemporary architecture. The rhythms of the loggias are emphasised by a neutral color, a timeless taupe grey, while the building entrances are marked by vast expanses of red ochre, both signage and information. The use of color on the façades is echoed in the treatment of the awnings and blinds in red textiles and the entrance canopies in warm grey wood.

How do you give a new personality to a 1960s residence with few architectural qualities? By creating a surprise with bold chromatic choices and flat areas of colour placed in a rhythmic way on the buildings of the residence, for ever-changing viewing angles.
